Why We Love This Recipe

Our children love helping to make these Oreo truffles as a special treat for friends or for a family celebration. You can get creative with the decoration, and because there’s no baking involved, it’s an easy win for a rainy afternoon or a last-minute party contribution. With only a few ingredients, they’re simple to prepare and always disappear fast.

Ingredients

  • 2 packets of Oreo biscuits (154g each)
  • 150g cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 200g dark, white or milk chocolate, for coating
  • Optional: gold glitter spray or edible glitter, to decorate

Method

1. Empty the Oreo biscuits into a zip-loc bag and bash with a rolling pin or meat hammer until they form large crumbs. You could also pulse them in a food processor.

2. In a large bowl, mix the crushed Oreo biscuits with the cream cheese and a teaspoon of vanilla essence until fully combined.

3. Roll the mixture into balls and chill in the fridge or freezer for at least an hour.

4. Once chilled, melt your chocolate of choice.

5. Use a skewer or fork to dip each truffle into the melted chocolate, then place on greaseproof paper to set.

6. Store in the fridge, and just before serving, spray or coat with edible glitter if you’re using it.

7. Enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Chilling the balls properly before dipping makes them much easier to coat neatly in chocolate.
  • A fork or dipping tool helps keep your fingers clean and gives a smoother finish.
  • Try a mix of dark, milk and white chocolate for a pretty variety on one platter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Oreo truffles ahead of time?

Yes. They store well in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days, which makes them a handy make-ahead option for parties or bake sales.

Can I freeze Oreo truffles?

You can freeze the rolled, un-coated balls before dipping them in chocolate. Thaw them in the fridge, then dip in melted chocolate when you’re ready to serve.

Do I need any special equipment?

No special equipment is needed. A zip-loc bag and rolling pin (or a food processor) will crush the biscuits, and a fork or skewer works well for dipping.

Can kids help make these?

Yes, this is a great no-bake activity for kids to get involved in, from bashing the biscuits to rolling the balls and decorating the finished truffles.
