Day 12 – Movement

Watch today’s video here: https://youtu.be/tFtD-jtwkQg

There are days when, by 8pm, you’re ready to melt into the couch because your day has been so crazy busy. Running from pillar to post, playing taxi to the kids, trying to keep a business or household going in the background — it’s mayhem, and you’re exhausted. Then you glance at your watch and see you’ve done 10 steps, even though it feels like you’ve walked the length and breadth of a marathon.

But that feeling doesn’t always match reality.

It’s worth remembering that emotional fatigue after a long, busy day is not the same as physical fatigue. If you’ve had a very busy day but haven’t actually been physically active, you may not sleep well that night — and that’s exactly why daily movement matters so much.

Today, let’s go back and take a quick look at your daily movement levels, following on from the conversation we’ve already started earlier in the Challenge. Think about what changes you made in response to that first check-in — did you increase your movement at all as a result?

If you haven’t, today’s the day to ask yourself a few honest questions:

  • How well am I actually sleeping?
  • Do I get into bed and feel restless?
  • Is my back or body feeling a bit tight?

If any of those ring true, an easy walk or some gentle stretching before bed could make a real difference.

The aim here isn’t to smash a personal best — it’s simply to get a little stronger and improve your cardiovascular fitness, nothing else. So ask yourself honestly how much movement you’ve been getting, and whether you could do a little bit more. If the answer is yes, plan to get outside for even 10 minutes this evening. You’ll often find yourself doing more than you planned once you’re out there — but 10 minutes is a perfectly good place to start.
