This chocolate nests recipe is super simple to rustle up, with no oven required. Even though it’s a treat, it does use wheat cereal, so there’s a bit of extra fibre in these treats too. Kids will love helping to mix the chocolate mixture and add the mini eggs to decorate their own nests.
They’re perfect for a spring birthday party, an Easter weekend treat, or just a fun kitchen activity on a rainy afternoon.
Chocolate Nests Recipe
Ingredients
- 100g butter
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 50g milk chocolate buttons
- 75g golden syrup
- 4 Shredded Wheat (or Weetabix, or another high-fibre cereal)
- Chocolate mini eggs
Method
1. Put the butter, cocoa powder, milk chocolate buttons and golden syrup into a microwaveable bowl.
2. Microwave on high for 1–2 minutes and mix together.
3. Crumble the Shredded Wheat into the bowl and mix with the rest of the ingredients.
4. Place a generous spoonful into each of 12 baking cases to form the nests.
5. Press the centre of each nest down slightly to form a dip, and place 3 chocolate mini eggs in each dip.
6. Chill for 30 minutes.

Can I make these chocolate nests without a microwave?
Yes — you can melt the butter, cocoa powder, chocolate buttons and golden syrup gently in a saucepan over low heat instead, stirring until smooth, then follow the rest of the recipe as normal.
How long do chocolate nests keep for?
Once chilled and set, they’ll keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days, making them handy to prepare ahead of a party or Easter get-together.
Can I use a different cereal?
Yes, Weetabix works well as a substitute for Shredded Wheat, or you can use another high-fibre wheat cereal you have to hand.
Are chocolate mini eggs necessary, or can I swap the topping?
