Chocolate bark is one of those treats that looks impressive but takes almost no effort at all. No baking, no fancy equipment, and kids can get stuck in from start to finish. All you need is chocolate, a few toppings, and a bit of patience while it chills in the fridge.
Watch how it’s done in the video below, then follow the full recipe underneath.
How to Make Chocolate Bark
Ingredients:
- 200g bar of milk chocolate for the base
- 10 chocolate digestive biscuits, crushed with a rolling pin
- Choice of toppings – e.g. chocolate balls and sprinkles
- 100g bar of milk chocolate for the drizzle
Method:
1. Crush the cookies/biscuits in a plastic bag with a rolling pin.
2. Melt the milk chocolate either in the microwave (try 30 seconds at a time until it’s melted) or over a double boiler (a bowl set over a pan of simmering water).
3. Spread the melted chocolate over your lined baking tray.
4. Sprinkle the crushed cookies and your chosen toppings over the milk chocolate base.
5. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle it over the top.
6. Chill for at least 30 minutes in the fridge.
7. Break into bark pieces and enjoy!
This is a great one for letting kids take the lead on the toppings – once the base is spread out, they can go as wild as they like with sprinkles, chocolate balls, or whatever you have in the baking cupboard.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate?
Yes, you can swap in dark, milk or white chocolate for the base and drizzle depending on what your family prefers. Just melt each type separately using the same method.
What toppings work well on chocolate bark?
Almost anything crunchy or colourful works – crushed biscuits, sprinkles, chocolate balls, chopped nuts, or dried fruit. It’s a good way to use up odds and ends from the baking cupboard.
Do I need any special equipment?
No – a lined baking tray, a rolling pin for crushing biscuits, and a microwave or a pan and bowl for melting chocolate is all you need.
How should I store chocolate bark?
Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge, layered with baking paper so the pieces don’t stick together.
Is this a good recipe for kids to help with?
Definitely – younger children can help crush biscuits and scatter toppings, while older kids can take on melting the chocolate with supervision.
