Lough Key has a number of walking trails that have been graded to suit all abilities. Before you travel, download the walking path map and decide on the route that best fits your family.

#1. Drumman’s Island Walking Trail

The Drumman’s Island Trail will take you along the shores of the lake and to the quiter reaches of the forest park. Along the route you will cross two bridges, Drumman’s Bridge and the magical Fairy Bridge.

Drumman’s Island Trail is a loop walk of 3.5kms and has been graded easy with multi-access.

#2. Miners Way Historical Walking Trail

The Miners Way Historical Trail is part of a longer Miners Way walking route. This is a great walking route for families who want to get back to nature as it takes you into the heart of Lough Key Forest Park.

Here you will find majestic red cedar trees along with Norway spruce, evergreen oak, lime, ash and beech trees. Look out for birds, squirrels and other wildlife along the way.

The Miners Way route is 4.2kms and has been graded easy

#3. Slí Sláinte Walking Trail

Developed by the Irish Heart Foundation, you will find Slí na Sláinte trails across Ireland. Slí na Sláinte translate as ‘path to health’.

The Slí Sláinte Trail at Lough Key is the ideal route for those looking to get their hearts pumping slightly quicker! The Slí Sláinte Trail is 3kms and has been graded easy.

#4. Stroll Through the Tree Tops

Get a view of what it is like to be a bird when you take a walk along the unique Tree Canopy Walkway at Lough Key.

The walkway rises 9m from the ground to give you a birds eye view of the estate, lake and surrounding countryside.

#6. Take A Historical Underground Walk

As part of the Lough Key Experience you can walk through the old servant tunnels that ran under Rockingham House. The self-guided audio tour will fill you in on all the history as you go.

Rockingham House once sat where the Moylurg Tower now stands. It was one of the largest mansions in the Boyle area, designed by the famous architect John Nash in 1809/10, and the King family lived here with their many servants.

Unfortunately the house was destroyed by a fire in 1957 but the servant tunnels survived and have been preserved for you to explore.

#7. Leading Landmarks Walk

Enjoy a short stroll from the visitor centre to see some of Lough key Forest Park & Activity Centre leading landmarks. Close by you will find the stable yard, chapel, fishing temple and ice house.
