The Irish National Stud & Gardens have daily family activities running over the Easter Break from March 30th to April 2nd. For anyone interested in nature, discovery and adventure, Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre has a real treat in store this Easter break. The new Birr Castle Easter Family Quest which is an alternative to the traditional Easter Egg Hunt will take young, and maybe not so young, explorers on a journey through time, from great engineering feats to wildlife discoveries, and many more highlights in between. Once the young explorers complete the quest they return to the playground kiosk for their Easter treat and some free face painting. The Easter Family Quest takes place on dates from March 28th to April 6th.

The gardens of Birr Castle are home to the Great Telescope built in 1845 which remained the largest in the world for over 70 years.  The galleries of the Science Centre cover the remarkable feats of the Parsons family, their inventions and discoveries. Whilst the world’s tallest box hedge can be found in the formal gardens it’s best not to forget the tallest treehouse in Ireland which is located in the Treehouse Adventure Playground.

On Sunday 8th April, the ACT for Meningitis annual sporting event, Remembering Aoibhe Renville Challenge will honour her tenth anniversary and the race itself is four years in existence. This year’s race line-up includes a 5k fully time-chipped run/walk at 11am and an exciting 3k/16k/3k Duathlon at 3pm, and this year to mark Aoibhe’s 10th anniversary, there will be a 2.5k Junior Race at 10am. This all takes place at the picturesque Renville Park in Oranmore, overlooking Galway Bay. Registration is open at www.iregister.ie/rarc and the first 300 people to register will receive a specialised designed event sports top registered.

The Galway Food Festival is back from March 29th to April 2nd 2018.

On the 26th of March between 5 and 7 Yourells Hair Salons will be hosting their kids charity evening in aid of Rosabel’s Rooms in collaboration with The Irish Hospice Foundation. Their 3 salons in Eyre Street, Moycullen and Oranmore will be providing complimentary haircuts for children under 10 with all donations going towards Rosabels Rooms, a charity set up by Gary and Suzanne Monroe who tragically lost their daughter Rosabel in April 2017. Rosabel’s Rooms are family-focused bereavement suites which will be established in hospitals around Ireland. The first Rosabels Room is currently underway in UHG. Easter Egg Hunt at Nore Valley Park

The Nore Valley Park Easter Egg Hunt is one of their longest-running annual events – and definitely the most popular!

Hunt far and wide around the farm for hidden eggs, and claim your sweets and chocolates as a reward!

The Easter Egg Hunt will take place between Saturday 24th and Friday 30th March 2018, 10am to 4pm (except for Sunday 25th when the farm is closed). Normal farm entry applies, with the Easter Egg Hunt incurring an extra charge.

It’s Easter family fun time at Castlecomer Discovery Park with activities for all the family to enjoy. This year will see a return of the popular Discovery Park Easter Trail which will be centred on a favourite fairy tale. Families will search to find clues in the 80 acre woodland. On completion of the trail families will receive an Easter treat.

Wicklow
