With its sunny climate and world famous beaches, delicious food and interesting historical towns and sites to see, Portugal is a super family holiday destination. We have spent two wonderful family holidays in Portugal and will definitely go back. Here are Family Resorts in Portugal You’ll Definitely Have a Ball At:

Pine Cliffs Resort, Albufeira

The Pine Cliffs Resort in the Algarve has won Europe’s Best Family Resort six times, most recently in the World Travel Awards 2016. And you can see why it is a leading family destination with its array of watersports, Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, Junior Club for 8 to 13 years and Porto Pirata Kids Club with its lifelike pirate ship and 7,000m2 children’s village for 6 month to 8 year olds.

The resort is close to Falésia Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, you access the hotel’s private beach area via a scenic walkway and an elevator.

The resort is located 30 minutes by car from Faro International Airport.

Colina Village, Carvoeiro

Colina Village, located near Carvoeiro, is set in a pleasant area surrounded by a beautiful garden, perfect for relaxing on your balcony or terrace or enjoying the loungers by the pool. They have both indoor and outdoor pools, kids’ playground, tennis courts, entertainment and babysitting services.

During summer season, a free shuttle service is provided from the resort to the beach or center of Carvoeiro. You can also visit the city of Lagoa, famous for its handicrafts and regional wines, 12 minutes’ drive away.

Colina Village is about 40 minutes away from Faro Airport.

Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, Sagres

In a stunning position overlooking Martinhal Beach and set within a protected natural park, Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel is located close to the historic town of Sagres at the far edge of the unspoiled Western Algarve. Featuring a 37 bedroom five star hotel and a selection of spacious family houses, the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel has been designed with families in mind and children of all ages are especially welcome.

The resort offers a wide range of children’s facilities and activities of the highest quality, made just for kids from 6 months to teenagers.

The Martinhal group also has family resorts at Caiscais near Lisbon and at Quinta do Lago, a stone’s throw from Faro.

Sagres is an hour and twenty minutes from Faro but I promise it’s well worth the drive.

Pestana Viking Beach & Spa Resort, Porches

The Pestana Viking is a 4-star clifftop hotel in Porches-Armação de Pêra, in the Algarve, 2 minutes on foot from Senhora da Rocha beach where you will find sunbeds, sun shades, pedal boats and other boats to explore nearby caves and the coast. The hotel has an outdoor saltwater swimming pool surrounded by exotic gardens as well as a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi and Spa for Mum and Dad.

For kids there’s a Kids Club for 4-12 years offering a wide variety of fun activities as well as a children’s playground. The rooms at the Resort have sea views or views of the luxury gardens. There’s a little shop, a playroom, entertainment. And a complimentary shuttle to take you to downtown Armação de Pêra. Zoomarine, Aqualand and Slide&Splash are all just a few km away.

Pestana Viking Beach is located 55km from Faro, taking about 40 minutes to get there by car.

Club Alvorferias, Alvor

Club Alvorferias, near the fishing village of Alvor, is close to the beach and offers a quiet atmosphere perfect for families. There are studio apartments and also 1, 2, or 3 bedroom apartments.

The resort has a kids club, supermarket, restaurants and bar, and offers a wide range of activities for adults and children such as swimming-pool games, quizzes, snooker, football, tennis and more. During evenings, there are activities and entertainment.

It takes about 45 minutes to get to Club Alvorferias from Faro Airport.

Salema Beach Village, Salema

Salema is a cute fishing village with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, bars and restaurants and a beach. The Salema Beach Village complex has villas available for self catering with 2 or 3 bedrooms, complete with fully equipped kitchens, terrace and garden.

There is loads for kids and families to do including

  • outdoor gym
  • Kids Playground
  • outdoor pool with pool snack bar
  • or head to the beach, only 500m away.

Salema is just over 1 hour from Faro.

Monte da Quinta, Quinta da Lago

Located in Quinta do Lago, surrounded by the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Monte da Quinta is ideal for families. Built in quiet surroundings, the Resort offers 132 suites. Suites have 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, on two floors with spacious rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen.

Facilities include restaurants, a Spa for a bit of pampering, outdoor and indoor pools, and golf nearby. Monte da Quinta caters well for kids offering a kids club with supervised and unsupervised kids activities, for kids between 4 and 12 years. They also have a movie club, outdoor playground, babysitter service, kids pool. And should you go at off peak times, there’s even an indoor pool. Baby packs and high chairs available.

Monte da Quinta is 20 mins from Faro Airport.
