Nothing beats a cold, fruity treat on a warm day, and making your own is much simpler than you might think. These yummy and healthy frozen treats to make for kids are a brilliant way to sneak in some extra fruit while keeping everyone cool and happy.
My own kids love making ice lollies almost as much as eating them. If you don’t already have a set of ice lolly or popsicle moulds, it’s worth investing in one so you can keep refilling them with new flavours and combinations. No moulds? No problem — paper cups and wooden sticks work just as well as an easy improvisation.
Most of these recipes use pure fruit, fruit juice or yoghurt as a base, so you can play around with textures and flavours depending on what you have in the fridge.

The great thing about these lollies is that you can use whatever fruit you have on hand.

- 2 tbsp clear honey
- 100g of your favourite fruits – kiwi, strawberries, cherries or blueberries all work well

2. Finely dice the fruit and stir it through the yoghurt mix.
3. Divide the mixture between your moulds or paper cups, adding a handle or stick to each one.

Chocolate Covered Kiwi Lollies
Makes 12 kiwi lollies
A super-quick treat using just fresh fruit and chocolate.
Ingredients

- 12 wooden ice lolly sticks
Method
1. Peel the kiwis and cut two thick slices from each one (save the leftover kiwi for breakfast with yoghurt).
2. Push a wooden stick into the side of each kiwi round, lay them on greaseproof paper and freeze until solid.
3. Once frozen, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water.
4. Dip each kiwi pop into the melted chocolate and return straight to the freezer to set before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do homemade ice lollies take to freeze?
Most of these recipes need at least 6 hours, and several are best left overnight, so it’s worth making a batch the day before you want to serve them.
How long will homemade frozen treats keep in the freezer?
Homemade lollies and frozen yoghurt are best enjoyed within a couple of weeks for the best flavour and texture, kept covered or in an airtight container to avoid freezer burn.
Can I make these without ice lolly moulds?
Yes — small paper cups with a wooden stick placed in once the mixture has partly set work just as well if you don’t have moulds.
Are these frozen treats a healthy snack for kids?
These recipes use fruit, yoghurt and honey rather than processed sugars, making them a nice way to add extra fruit to your child’s day as part of a balanced diet.
Can I swap the fruit in these recipes?
Absolutely. Many of these recipes, especially the Summer Fruit Lollies, are flexible — use whatever ripe fruit you have at home.
