Indoor Festive Style Tips for Home

Deck The Halls

Deck the halls and make an impact in your entrance hall easily by adding lights or greenery to mirrors and picture frames in your chosen colour scheme.

In addition, you could add a festive runner and welcome mat. And if your hall is large enough, a Christmas tree, festive plants or a flower arrangement can be the perfect addition.

Stair rails can be decorated with seasonal garlands and lights. In our house, this is my Dad’s job and he spends hours perfecting the garlands and lights on the stairs!

A diffuser can be placed in your entrance hall to welcome visitors with the smells of Christmas as soon at they walk through the front door.

Trimming The Tree

For me, the day we put up the Christmas tree signifies the beginning of the festive season. We all get involved with the trimming of the tree and there is great excitement when we turn the lights on for the first time.

My Mum and I have a tradition of buying each other a new Christmas decoration each year for our trees. I love adding all the different decorations and baubles we have gathered over the years and the memories each one holds.

At this stage, I love to gather all the presents together, wrap them and place them underneath the tree. It adds to the magic of Christmas.

Liven Up Your Living Room

For those with a mantlepiece, choose some pretty garlands or lights to add instant festive style. You could also add a statement candle holder, ornaments and baubles along the mantle.

Mirrors or paintings that may sit above, can be given a festive makeover using lights or greenery or you could remove them and hang a beautiful Christmas wreath above your mantlepiece.

Sofas and chairs can be transformed using seasonal cushions and throws.

A quality faux Christmas tree will finish off the look and give the room a focal point (without the mess). I have learned to hang treasured decorations up high, as when my girls were younger they loved taking them off the tree to play with!

Festive Bedroom Essentials

Getting the children to decorate their bedroom can be a lovely way to let their individual style shine through. Use festive bed linen, cushions, rugs, a miniature tree, festive pj’s & lights to create a seasonal look that will be the envy of all their friends.

My girls always love to get new Christmas PJ’s and they add seasonal bed linen come December 1st (or earlier if they can!). They add lights around the window and bed and it is the only time of year when I don’t have to keep on at them to keep their bedrooms tidy!
