Sound familiar? Here's the list of things every parent says on repeat — from "where are your shoes?" to "I love you." Watch the video and add your own!

Things Parents Say To Their Kids Over and Over and Over…

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck on repeat with your kids? Same questions, same reminders, same “just one more time” — every single day feels a bit like Groundhog Day.

You’re not imagining it. Every parent ends up with a personal soundtrack of phrases they say on loop, often multiple times before breakfast is even over. Here’s our list of the things parents say to their kids at least once a day — and in most houses, a lot more than once.

The Daily Repeat List

No.

Where are your shoes?

Why do you only have 1 shoe?

What do you mean you can’t find your other shoe?

We are leaving!

Put your jacket on.

Everybody in the car.

Are your seat belts buckled?

Time to go!

Do you need the toilet?

Did you put the seat down? Did you put the seat up?

Did you flush?

Did you wash your hands?

Did you use soap?

Give me back my phone.

Maybe later.

I don’t know. Go ask your mom/dad.

Go tidy your room.

Just a minute.

Go brush/comb your hair.

That is the last time I will tell you.

Please will you…

Thank you.

Did you hear what I said?

What did I just say?

Don’t make me count to 3.

Not on a school night.

Because I said so.

I can see you.

Close the door.

Not now.

Where is your sister/brother?

Leave your brother/sister alone.

Did you turn off the light?

Turn the TV off.

Where did you have it last?

Did you look in your room/in the living room/in the hall…

Pick up your bag/jacket/sweater/toy/book…

What do you mean you don’t know how it happened?

How do you know you don’t like it? You’ve never tried it.

One more bite.

I’m on the phone.

Go get a paper towel.

Go brush your teeth.

It’s bedtime!

Go to sleep!

And, of course… I love you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do parents end up saying the same things over and over?

Kids are creatures of habit — and so are the routines around them. Repeating reminders about shoes, seatbelts, teeth and bedtime is just part of how daily routines get built (and rebuilt) with young children. It’s completely normal, not a sign you’re doing anything wrong.

Is it bad for kids if I repeat myself a lot?

Not at all. Repetition is how children learn routines and expectations. The key is staying calm and consistent rather than worrying about the number of times you’ve said something.
