Tricky Trickster
First up, turn back the clock for smaller kids. If you think your four-year-old is going to make it to actual midnight, think again — it’s pretty much guaranteed to end in tears and tantrums (either theirs or yours).
Around 7pm, quietly put the clock back a few hours and let them believe it’s midnight. Have a mini celebration, then pop them into bed. They’ll be delighted they “saw” midnight, and you won’t have to deal with the overtired fallout.

Cover one end of the holder with tinfoil, pop the pebbles in through the other side, then cover that end too. Musical Midnight
A New Year’s Eve twist on musical chairs, perfect for adults and kids together. Instead of music, kids circle the chairs to the sound of ringing clock bells (a phone alarm or a video works well). When the bells stop, everyone grabs a seat.
Make Your Own Party Hats or Crowns
Grab some recycled card, glitter glue pens, plenty of sparkly glitter, sequins, and anything else you can think of, to make fun New Year’s Eve party hats for the big countdown. Leftover tinsel from the Christmas decorations works a treat here too.
Cup Tower Challenge
