10 Cool Crafts That Even Your Teen Will Want To Do

#1.  Thumb Tack Art

Featured-Image-word-art-02Want to do a quick, inexpensive and creative piece of decor? Why not try this simple project from diyready with some thumb tacks.  You can pick these up in whatever colour you want and then get some foam board and cut to the word of your choice.  Just beautiful!

#2.  DIY Phone Cases/Covers

Those teens are never away from their phones so why not let them personalise them. Here is a really cool video from Mrkate which takes you through the steps of how to get involved.  All you will need are some plain case bases that you can decorate with lace, paints, jewels or even flowers.  So cool!  Have a new one for every day of the week!

#3. Bracelet Headphones

earphonesWant some cool headphones to go with that phone?  These are some great creative headphones to make if you have lots of free time this summer and want to personalise this ever popular accessory.

#4. Custom Coloured Sweets/Candy

custom candyThis is a great idea to make some cool party candy or to celebrate Halloween.  Really mix it up by getting creative with your colours.

Here’s what you need:

  • A plastic tub container – wide base
  • Food colouring – different colours
  • White base hard sweets/candies -e.g. anything smooth and shiny will work

How to prepare:

  1. Place a small amount of food coloring in a plastic tub
  2. Spread color around the base of container
  3. Add your sweets, candies and shake well
  4. Leave to dry for half an hour

#5.  Cover Your Own Books!

cover booksThis is a great idea to jazz up your own books for school or indeed to do some crafts to decorate a bedroom or living room.  Simply get some hard backed books, some decorative craft paper and some glue.  You can even add some little accessories to really make them stand out.

#6. Stud Your Own Duds!

stud your dudsShoes with studs seem to be quite popular at the moment with teenagers.  However they can work out quite pricey! Why not make your own and as well as being right on trend you can add your own twist to them!

You will need: 

  • 1 Pair of high top sneakers (Converse are used here)
  • Studs and spikes
  • Glue
  • Screwdriver (useful if you’re using spikes w/ screws)
  • Sharp scissors (to poke holes)

#7.  DIY Tin Lantern

You will need:

  • Hammer
  • Towel
  • Marker
  • Nail or screw
  • Tin can or tin bucket
  • Candle or LED light
  • Water

#8.  DIY Coasters

  • ceramic tiles
  • chalkboard spray paint

#9.  Cardboard Tube Butterflies

#10. Beaded Pen and Pencil Wraps

penwrap1thMost kids can do this simple craft but is probably more suitable to slightly older kids as they can customise their own pens and pencils and be really “cool at school”.

You will need: 

  • Pen or Pencil
  • Craft Wire
  • Alphabet and Regular Beads (4mm worked well)
  • Wire Cutters
  • Needle Nose Pliers


  1. Cut about a piece of wire about 4- to 6-inches long. You can change this depending on the design you want to make. Use the needle nose pliers and bend down the tip of one end of the wire.
  2. String beads onto the wire to spell out a name or another word. Once you have your beads all on the wire, clip off any extra wire leaving just enough to bend over the end so the beads stay in place.
  3. To use the wrap, all you do is wrap the wire into a tight spiral around the pen or pencil.
