The Gleneagle Hotel River Apartments, Killarney
Orla and her family stayed in the river apartments at the Gleneagle Hotel and told us “they slept 5 comfortably and they were able to use all the facilities at the hotel”.
Each apartment has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a fully fitted kitchen. For those wishing to bring their pets on holiday they allow 2 pets max per apartment and you will be provided with a pet bed, food and drink bowls.
River Apartment guests have access to all the leisure facilities you could possibly wish for – a 25m swimming pool, kiddies’ pool, gym, squash and tennis courts, pitch and putt, snooker and children’s activity centre. Not to mention the Eager Eagles Kids Club and Chillzone and Kiddies entertainment during the school holidays. Located in the centre of Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim, above the popular An Poitín Still, Ridgerock offers family friendly rates for 1 & 2 night stays mid-week, which are especially popular during the summer holidays and during mid-term breaks.
Ridegrock accommodation comprises of large family rooms, which are suitable for up to 6 people. Each room is en-suite with a flat screen TV, fridge and faciliites for making tea/coffee and cereal and treats are provided for the kids.
Carrick and the surrounding area has so much to offer, from the Bluebell woods in Ardcarne and the Shannon Blueway walk at Acres Lake (which are both free), to unique boat tours and excellent family friendly activities, which are designed and suitable for our weather.
Some of the most popular activities include Lough Key Adventure Park, Go-Karting, Quad Bikes, Paint Balling and Swimming. There is plenty more on offer like water activities which work out cheaper when you book through Ridgerock!

Self Catering at The Connacht Hotel, Galway
Cookie told us “the Connacht Hotel have self catering family apartments which are very family friendly and you have the benefits of all the hotel has to offer including a great leisure centre and kids club”.
Apartments are one and two bedrooms. Each bedroom is en-suite with a power shower and bath. They have a fully equipped kitchen and the 2 bedroom apartments can sleep 5 adults or 2 adults and 4 children. The kids club is available to guests during school holidays.
For those wishing to stay in the hotel, check out the new Bunk Bed Family Rooms with a double bed and triple bunks that sleep up to 3 children or the newly refurbished family suites with one and 2 bedrooms and a kitchenette.

Talbot Suites at Stonebridge, Wexford
Recommended by Mum Paula who visited recently and says they were brilliant., “great apartments, location & lots of parking too. Would highly recommend”.
The self catering Talbot Suites come with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. The apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, living area and utility room and are perfect for families of all ages.
Cots and high-chairs are available on request at time of booking but not always guaranteed. They do not provide camp beds but a number of the self catering apartments do have sofa beds which can accommodate a child aged U14.

Banna Beach Holiday Homes, Kerry
Siobhan says “these self catering holidays homes are great for young children but you will need a car especially if you are visiting out of season”.
Each self catering cottage is fully equipped for a family’s needs with underfloor heating in tiled areas, TV, DVD and Audio players, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (double en-suite & 2 twin rooms), fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave & washer/dryer. Each cottage comes with its own large patio area with outdoor wooden furniture.
Self Catering guests will have access to a shop, diner, bar, leisure centre and indoor and outdoor play areas and there are plenty of amenities to keep visitors of all ages amused in the surrounding area. (some of the above may not be open out of season)
Atlantic Aparthotel, Donegal
Recommended by Siobhan who says “you will have everything you need for a great family holiday on your doorstep”. The Atlantic Aparthotel in Bundoran, Co. Donegal offers a range of self catering holiday apartments with options of one double bedroom up to 3 bedrooms, perfect families of all sizes.
There is free wi-fi in communal areas and all guests have use of the indoor games room and the leisure centre with a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and spa whirl pool.
Guests can also avail of the 9 hole pitch & putt par 3 golf course and 9 hole crazy golf course and adventure playground situated in the well maintained gardens. There is a private car-park. And plenty to do in the surrounding area.
Jameson Court Apartments, Galway
Maureen told us they have booked to stay here after they were recommended by a friend. The Jameson Court Apartments are set just a stones throw from the infamous Salthill Prom, Blackrock Diving Tower, Grattan & Ladies beaches, in the heart of Salthill village.
Families visiting Galway will be spoiled for choice when it comes to the activities on offer within walking distance of these self catering apartments and there is a bus route outside the front door for those who don’t want to walk or drive to the city centre.
Families can book a 1 bed, 2 bed or penthouse apartment and all come with a fully fitted kitchen including a washer/dryer and a living space to relax in.

Self Catering at The Great Southern Killarney
Gearoidin stayed at The Great Southern Killarney holiday homes and said “it was a good option and is located bedside the hotel for any extras you need”.
There is a choice of apartments or houses and self catering guests have access to the Innisfallen Health & Beauty Room which includes a 15m swimming pool. Also on-site is an outdoor children’s playground & two tennis courts. And during school holidays, children have free access to the Family Fun Programme of activities.
Situated beside the train station and just minutes from Killarney town centre, each self catering option comes with a private parking space.

Seafield Hotel & Spa Resort Self Catering, Wexford
Vanessa & Leeanne both recommended the self catering apartments at the Seafield Hotel & Spa in Wexford as you have full access to all the hotel has to offer with the privacy & comfort of your own front door.
There are spacious 2 and 3 bedroom apartments available to rent and self catering guests have access to acres of parkland, a nature trail, children’s playground, games room, kids club (during school holidays), Ballymoney Beach, Oceo Spa and a selection of golf courses. Kiera recommended the self catering houses & lodges at the Kenmare Bay Hotel. Jill has also stayed here and would highly recommend them.

Woodvilla Lodge Self Catering, Wexford
“A stones throw from the beautiful Kilmore Quay this 5 bedroom lodge is a delight”, says Celene about Woodvilla Lodge in Wexford.
In addition to the 5 bedrooms, 2 of which are en-suite, there is a fully fitted kitchen with a dining table that can comfortably seat 10.
The main living area is upstairs and has a balcony overlooking the garden, sofas & chairs, a TV, a wood burning stove and a large table suitable for dining or to play cards or games with family and friends.
Outdoors there is a well equipped play area, a large grassy garden and an outdoor patio dining area with a BBQ. Woodvilla Lodge is approximately 1km from Bridgetown Village which has all the amenities needed for the perfect self catering family holiday.

Tony and Jenny told us that Kerry Holidays have “a good selection of family friendly self catering accommodation options in the Killarney Holiday Village that are in the perfect location to explore Killarney town and the surrounding countryside”.
There are 7 beautifully decorated self catering holiday homes, located in the Killarney Holiday Village. They are family friendly, affordable, spacious and even located within a courtyard style setting with green areas for children to play safely.
Within a short distance of the holiday village, there are endless activities for children. From bike hire, boat trips and Kennedy’s Pet Farm and Activity Centre, the kiddies definitely won’t get bored. Even on those rainy days, they can be kept entertained with the local cinema, Leisure Centre or Buddies Play Centre.

Brigid recommended Upton Court Holiday Cottages in Wexford as “the perfect self catering retreat for families or groups of friends”.
Each cottage sleeps 6 comfortably and there is also a 4 bedroom house, which can sleep 9.
The houses are adjacent to the Upton Court Hotel so you can avail of the hotel facilities during your stay. They are fully equipped and are all wheelchair friendly with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Each cottage has wi-fi and a TV & DVD player and a folder packed full of information on things to do in the local area.
Fota Lodges, Cork
Jennifer recommended the family friendly self catering lodges at Fota Island. With 2, 3 and 4 bedroom options available, they are perfect for families with 2 or more children or for family groups who wish to holiday together but each have their own space.
During your stay you can avail of all the facilities of Fota Island resort including the leisure centre and award winning golf course. Each lodge is well equipped for your holiday with a fully fitted kitchen, 2 TV’s and Wi-Fi.

Harbour Cottage Portnoo, Co Donegal
“Harbour Cottage can sleep up to 11 people with 4 double bedrooms, 1 with bunks and 2 shower rooms making it perfect for a family holiday with kids or for 2 families” says Mum Jane.
There is loads to do in the surrounding area and a table tennis table is provided for use by guests. There are steps from the garden onto a beautiful beach with rock pools to explore. The kitchen is fully fitted with everything you need, including a washing machine and seating for everyone at a round table.
Quilty Cottages, Clare
“Playground, tennis court, pool room and an on-site sauna and an indoor heated swimming pool for use of all guests make Quilty Cottages the perfect self catering option for families with 2 or more kids” says Dad Aidan.
He did add that “you will need a car as there are very few facilities within walking distance”. And Spanish Point is around 3kms away and has a lovely beach to explore and enjoy with the kids.
There are 2 types of self catering holiday cottages available to rent, both sleep up to 6 people and have 3 bedrooms, but type b offers larger rooms. Every cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and a washer/dryer and a living room to relax in after a fun day of activities.
