9 Simple Pasta Recipes for Kids to Prepare in No Time

#1.  Ham & Pea Pasta


This one is always a winner in my house, as everyone loves ham and peas. This is a simple one to do with some left over cooked ham from Sunday lunch.

You will need:

  • 200g of Fusilli Pasta
  • 100g of frozen Petit Pois
  • 150ml of Cream
  • 150g of Ham
  • 4 slices of sandwich bread
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Olive Oil
  • 50g of Parmesan Cheese

To prepare:

  1. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on pack.
  2. 5 minutes into boiling add in the peas.
  3. When the pasta is cooked drain out the water.
  4. Put the pot back on the heat and add in the cream and chopped ham and warm through.
  5. To make the breadcrumbs blend the 4 slices of sandwich bread to make fresh bread crumbs.
  6. Then heat a little olive oil on a pan and add in the breadcrumbs, crushed garlic clove and grated parmesan.
  7. Cook for 5 minutes until the breadcrumbs are crisp.

To serve, place the pasta into a bowl and top with the delicious garlic breadcrumbs.

#2. Tuna Pasta Salad

84_TunaPastaSaladThis recipe is a lovely fresh twist on a pasta salad from littlesteps, full of colour and fresh ingredients.

You can serve it straight away or cool and use in the lunchboxes as a change from sandwiches. Adding lemon juice gives it a nice lift and you can add in lots of different veggies which is great for sneaking more veg in too.

#3. Pasta with Salmon and Peas


Get some omega 3 in their diets with this really creamy and delicious salmon pasta dish.

You will need:

  • 1 handful fresh parsley
  • 300g peas, fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • fresh ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 350g spaghetti (wholegrain if possible)
  • 150ml water
  • 400g salmon fillets

To prepare:

  1. Half-fill a large saucepan with water and bring to the boil.
  2. Cook the pasta until firm, not too soft.
  3. While that’s cooking, cut the salmon into cubes.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan, and then add the salmon.
  5. Cook the fish for around five minutes – it should change colour but not go brown.
  6. Add the peas, water and parsley to the pan and cook for a further 2 minutes
  7. Add the pepper and lemon juice; check according to taste.
  8. When the pasta is cooked, tip out all the water, and then add it to the pan with the sauce.
  9. Toss the spaghetti lightly in the sauce, then serve straight away.

#4. Tuna Pasta Casserole

If you want an easy to prepare pasta dish that can be served up to a crowd this is a really quick one with a few simple ingredients.

You will need:

  • 16 ounces pasta (any type)
  • 1 1⁄2 cups chunked Velveeta cheese
  • 1  can cream of mushroom soup
  • 12 -18 ounces canned tuna (drained, 2-3 cans)

To prepare:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees (190 c)
  2. Boil and drain pasta.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a large pan
  4. Bake for 10 minutes, then remove and stir. Continue to bake for 10 more minutes or until cheese is entirely melted.
  5. Stir and serve.

#5. Mushroom Pasta


Want to prepare a quick pasta dish for the kids and stuck for inspiration when you look in the fridge?  I love this dish from Hellmanns as it uses the most basic ingredients that we tend to have lying around in the fridge or cupboard.

Simple mayonnaise, mushrooms, tomatoes and pasta is all you need.

#6. Pizza Pasta

This is easy to make and the kids will love it – anything with Pizza in the name!!

You will need:

  • 400g of dry small pasta (penne or similar)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 454g lean beef minced
  • 2 jars spaghetti sauce
  • 60 g of provolone cheese, sliced
  • 350g of sour cream
  • 150g mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

To prepare:

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil, add the pasta and cook until al dente.
  2. In a large pan, brown onion and minced beef over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  4. Grease a large baking dish and layer as follows: 1/2 of the pasta, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining pasta, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.

#7:  Home Made Macaroni Cheese

A firm favourite with most kids so why not go the healthier route and make the sauce yourself!

You will need:

  • 8 ozs of  macaroni pasta
  • 2 cups of cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 1/2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 pinch paprika

To prepare:

  1. Cook the macaroni according to the package directions. Drain.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine over medium heat.
  3. Stir in enough flour to make a roux.
  4. Add milk to roux slowly, stirring constantly. Stir in cheeses, and cook over low heat until cheese is melted and the sauce is a little thick.
  5. Put macaroni in large casserole dish, and pour sauce over macaroni. Stir well.d
  6. Melt butter or margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Add breadcrumbs and brown. Spread over the macaroni and cheese to cover. Sprinkle with a little paprika.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Serve.

#8.   Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta

Get the protein and the veggies into the kids with this lovely recipe from food.com that also has a little kick to it with cajun spice.

You will need:

  • 2 chicken breasts cut into thin strips
  • 4 ounces linguine, cooked al dente
  • 2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 thinly sliced green onion
  • 1-2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon dried basil

To prepare:

  1. Place chicken and Cajun seasoning in a bowl and toss to coat.
  2. In a large pan over medium heat, sauté chicken in butter or margarine until chicken is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat add green onion, heavy cream, tomatoes, basil, salt, garlic powder, black pepper and heat through.
  4. Pour over hot linguine and toss with Parmesan cheese.

#9. Hearty Pasta Soup

Do something different with a pack of tortellini. This hearty pasta meal from bbcgoodfood.com can be a wholesome lunch or dinner, and uses frozen peas & beans along with a packet of tortellini as the basis. Top with a sprinkling of Parmesan and serve with slices of garlic bread.
