Showcasing the work of the Japanese animation studio Ghibli, which created the spectacular Spirited Away, the Ghibli Museum is a magical and inspiring place to visit for both adults and kids.
You don’t have to have seen the movies to enjoy the wonderful presentations and exhibits here. You must book tickets in advance online and this can be done on the museum’s website up to 2 months before-hand.
#2. Experience Tsukiji Market
FREE: Even if you’re not a sushi connoisseur, the Tsukiji Market offers an unforgettable and unique Japanese experience. Surrounded with lots of stalls and numerous restaurants, go early in the morning and take a walk around and experience a genuine taste of Japan first hand.
#3. Become a Pilot at KidZania,Tokyo
An awesome place for kids aged 4 to 12 years! At KidZania, kids try their hands at their favourite careers with full uniforms and lots of real-world accessories.
There are 80 different careers and activities and everything is 2/3 life size. It’s advised to book tickets at least a month in advance. Wednesdays have English-speaking events but you’ll enjoy your visit no matter what day you go.

#4. Picnic in Imperial Palace Gardens
FREE: The beautiful grounds and gardens of the Imperial Palace are a great destination to wander with the kids! Let them run about and enjoy the stunning views of the palace. There are lovely shady spots, perfect for a family picnic!
#5. Enjoy the Views from Tokyo Tower
For stunning views of Tokyo, a visit to Tokyo Tower is a must! Even more enchanting at night when the city is twinkling with lights, this attraction also includes a small aquarium and other kid friendly activities. Make sure you walk on the glass see-through floor one level below the main deck!

#6. Admire the Meiji Shrine
FREE: The Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. You will take the most stunning photos here as you explore the expansive grounds, admire the trees, the Sake casks and the beautiful elaborate shrine buildings.
#7. Explore the National Museum of Nature and Science
Your kids will love the National Museum of Nature and Science so much! Many of the exhibits have interactive kiosks and the animals are fascinating. The dinosaur exhibition is particularly eye-catching and don’t miss the giant whale out front! Outside the museum you can also take a walk in the beautiful park.
#8. Lunch in Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Just to the west of downtown Tokyo, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a gorgeous urban oasis, especially popular in spring with the blossoming Cherry trees. There is a small fee to enter but it’s well worth it! Bring some lunch and enjoy it in the English Garden.

#9. Make a Splash at Tokyo Sea Life Park
The Tokyo Sea Life Park provides educational fun for the whole family. A small but well-designed aquarium, it is situated in a beautiful ocean side park with lovely outdoor areas. Children under 12 years are free. When you have finished here, you can head over to the big Ferris Wheel where you will get a 10% discount with your Sea Life pass.
#10. Take in the Views from Rainbow Bridge
FREE: The gorgeous views of Tokyo from Rainbow Bridge might just take your breath away! At night, the bridge glitters with glorious colours. The Odaiba neighbourhood is a busy hub of entertainment, eateries and architecture which also includes;
- Panasonic Centre
- Toyata Mega Web
- National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
- and several shopping malls.
