Using some masking tape, create a racing track for cars to race around the living room by using the tape twice to make a parallel track.

#12. Build a Fort with Blankets and Pillows

Build a den out of the sofa cushions, chairs, clothes rack with a blanket draped over or create a fort out of a big cardboard box with packing tape to hold the sides together.

Set up a little grocery/mini supermarket with tins and packets. If you have a play till set up a checkout table and they can take it in turns to be the checkout person or the shopper.

The ironing board makes a fun checkout counter and you can have some cloth shopping bags ready to put the purchases in.

#14. Magnet Sticking

Clear the fridge door off (or a magnetic board) and get a plastic tub for all the alphabet letters and fridge magnets. Let your toddler have fun sticking the magnets to the fridge. This can also be a good way of starting to learn letters.

Make some paper bag monsters with big holes for mouths. Your toddler will enjoy helping you to make the monsters. Then let them Feed the Monsters!

#16. Shape Game

If you have a shape sorter toy then these are great fun for toddlers, the type where you have to match the shapes to the holes and then empty it out again.

But if you don’t, here is a cool version on cardboard from Diapers to Diplomas, where the toddler matches foam shapes to the drawn shapes on cardboard.

#17. Card Board Box Fun

Take a big cardboard box and turn it into a fort, a car or a house for your toddler to play with. It’s great to see them playing and using their imagination with a simple item like a box!

Make a paper plate clock or a weather clock for your toddler and play some clock games with them.

#19. Colour Hop

Head outside and draw a circle of coloured dots on the ground with chalk. Then your toddler has to jump or hop onto the colour you shout out.

#20. Cheerio Tower

toddler gamesTake a piece of plasticine or play dough and stick 2 skewers (sharp end into the playdough) so they are sticking up. Then take some Cheerios out of a box.

Your toddler has to thread the Cheerios onto the skewers and see how high they can get their Cheerio Tower.

#21. Paper Plate Ring Toss Game

Take 3 or 4 paper plates. Draw a smaller circle in the middle of each plate and cut it out so you have a ring. Your toddler could paint the plates before you do this so they are bright colours.

Then set up the ring toss with a paper towel roll stuck to the floor and your toddler has to toss the plate rings onto the roll.
