As well as her superstar status for such hits as Jolene and 9 To 5, Dolly is also a die-hard advocate of childhood literacy. Dolly set up her own charity, Imagination Library, more than 22 years ago which provides free books for children around the world.
Imagination Library started to foster a love of reading by sending age-appropriate books to young children locally in Dolly’s home of East Tennessee, and has grown dramatically. Within five years, Imagination Library was working nationwide, before then launching globally. To date, more than 80,000,000 books have made their way into the hands of eager young readers and more than 1,000,000 books are sent out each month.
CBeebies Bedtime Stories airs at 6.50pm each evening as part of the bedtime hour, with a different storyteller every time. Dolly’s bedtime story airs on Wednesday October 25th at 6.50pm.
