If you are like me, a child who grew up with the early Star Wars movies, the characters of Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and of course, the robots C3PO and R2D2 are like members of an extended family, familiar and strangely comforting to see.
The end of the Star Wars saga is nearing with the arrival of the final movie in the series Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker coming to cinemas on 20th December.
I was not that taken with the middle trilogy of films but the new and final trilogy has proved to be very enjoyable, with strong female characters to boot, so I’m really looking forward to the final movie of the trilogy and the final one of the whole series.

The Rise of Skywalker
The trailer for J.J. Abrams’ final entry in the Skywalker Saga has arrived. The Skywalker saga that started more than 40 years ago (!) in Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, is now about to conclude.
Fittingly, the new and final trailer was dropped on Carrie Fisher’s birthday, and the actress has a posthumous role in this movie.
The upcoming film stars include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Ian McDiarmid, and of course, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.
The Rise of Skywalker picks up one year after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Kylo Ren and Rey are preparing to face off in their final battle against one another, as other members of the Resistance fight for the universe’s future.
This is the third instalment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy that launched in 2015. The first movie in the trilogy, The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, introduced female Jedi Rey and her arch-enemy Kylo Ren. It also introduced the beautiful Skellig Islands to worldwide audiences. (Proud Irish moment!)
Rian Johnson then took the directorial reins for 2017’s The Last Jedi but J.J. Abrams is back for the final instalment as the remnants of the Resistance once again face the First Order and the long conflict between the Jedi and the Sith comes to a head.
I’m super excited to go and see the final movie, although it will make me sad that it’s the official end of the saga. (No doubt there will be other prequels and other spin off movies as I can’t see the Star Wars franchise finishing any time soon.)
