Did you know that you can visit some amazing Heritage Ireland sites for free every month? With the OPW Free Days, it’s a great opportunity to take the kids to visit some of Ireland’s most magnificent places.

On the first Wednesday of every month you can get access to some of the OPW heritage sites across Ireland for free.

Visit an OPW Heritage Site For Free

This is a great opportunity for families to experience some of the best cultural and heritage sites in the country, places like Farmleigh and the Rock of Cashel. But there are also some lesser known sites that are fabulous for taking kids to. For example, Portumna Castle in Galway or Tintern Abbey in Wexford.

Please note that free admission on the first Wednesday of each month is not applicable at

  • Kilmainham Gaol
  • Dublin Castle
  • Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre (New Grange and Knowth)
  • Clonmacnoise
  • Kilkenny Castle

Here’s a list of the OPW heritage sites that you can visit free on the 1st Wednesday of the month.

N.B. Only those sites with an asterisk are open all year round. All other sites listed have a shorter season or restricted opening in winter.
