Are you looking for activities for a rainy day in Kildare? Need some ideas for things to do to keep the kids occupied when it’s wet outside? Then we have lots of suggestions here to make your job a little easier!

Support the Arts!

The Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, has a dedicated Children’s Art Space – which regularly features interactive children’s Art exhibitions. This is a lovely space for the children to hang out in, while you enjoy a coffee at CaToCa cafe.

They also run regular events and workshops for children, at weekend and during the school holidays.

Indoor Centres

There are plenty of indoor play centres to choose from in Kildare, when it starts to rain! Relax and have a coffee while the children have fun.

  • Playzone at M4 Business Park, Celbridge.
  • Fun Factory at M7 Business Park .
  • Tricky Tricksters/Magic Castle at Toughers Business Park, Newhall, Naas.
  • Jungle Den Monread Commercial Park Monread Road, Naas.
  • Playbarn, Johnstown, Naas.
  • Joey’s (suited best for 0-6yrs), Naas Town Centre, Naas

Take the family bowling at the K-Bowl Family Entertainment Centre at Newhall, Naas.  K-Bowl offers 10pin bowling which can be enjoyed by kids from as young as three years of age.  Refreshments are also available.

Why not try your hand at mini-golf, at the 18 hole indoor crazy golf course, Toughers Business Park, Naas.

Catch a Movie!

Who doesn’t love popcorn and a good movie?

Take in a movie at the Odeon Cinema Newbridge or Naas. There is a kids’ club with discounted rates at 12 noon on Saturdays and Sundays. This generally runs on the school holidays too.

Alternatively, why enjoy all the fun of the cinema, without ever leaving home, by creating your own home cinema experience! Get the kids involved in setting up the cinema, arranging seating, making tickets etc. then sit back and relax!

Get Reading!

Visit your local library. All libraries in the county have a junior section. Great for a rainy afternoon – go and read with the children or take part in many of the free events and activities that take place. Check out library opening times before you make plans.

Visit your local bookstore and treat the kids to a new book. Spend time browsing for that special book and go home and read it together. Barker & Jones in Naas, has a dedicated kids section on top floor and a nice coffee shop on first floor.

Be Active

Go swimming at the public pools of K-Leisure in Naas, or Athy, where there is Kids Pools (Naas) and family changing facilities, and coffee dock.

Family swimming time on Sunday mornings, and both pools run swimming camps during school holidays. Worth checking out for older accomplished kids, is the Monster Splash, a giant inflatable obstacle course, in Athy pool at weekends – see timetable for details.

Get Outside

Sometimes, you have just got to get out and get wet!

Put on the raingear and wellies and go for a walk in the rain.  Most kids love splashing in puddles, and sometimes it’s a great way to release pent-up energy from being cooped up inside. Here’s our Top 10 Things to do Outside in Rain for some ideas!

Warm up afterwards with a hot bath/shower, dry clothes and hot chocolate. Then, why not pull out a board-game or snuggle up on the couch with a movie – a perfect end to a wet day!
