Boda Borg @ Lough Key Forest & Activity Park
Lough Key Forest & Activity Park in Boyle, Co. Roscommon is set in the grounds of the old King-Harman Estate on the shores of island studded Lough Key, and is well worth a detour. You can spend fun filled hours experiencing the quests in Boda Borg, a totally unique activity to Ireland, suitable for adults and children over 7 years and it’s completely weather independent!
The Boda Borg is divided into 15 Quests which contain up to 47 individual challenges. To survive the Quests you will need to employ many different skills you may not even be aware you have – teamwork, ingenuity and trial and error! Solving one challenge opens the door to the next, and another blast of curiosity, laughter and excitement. The only requirement is a minimum of 3 people per team & maximum 5. - Another favourite rainy day activity is visiting Roscommon Leisure Zone. Let the kids bowl, run, bounce and play for a couple of hours while you join in the fun or relax with a cup of coffee.
- Visit Graune Pet Farm and Playcentre for some more indoor fun – play soccer, bounce on the inflatable kingdom, or race the go-karts on the indoor track. If the rain eases, head out to see the animals.
There’s nothing nicer than curling up with a nice book on a miserable day! Most of the libraries in Roscommon have an extensive range of children’s materials and many have inviting children areas with sofas a desks, and many often offer story-telling sessions, arts and craft groups and other special events on for children too.

Enjoy some Heritage
Arigna Mining Experience Centre in Roscommon was developed to preserve the energy heritage of the Arigna Valley and to ensure that Arigna maintains its link with Energy themes: Past, Present & Future. This Energy Centre provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since its beginning in the 1700’s until closure in 1990.
Strokestown Park House, Strokestown is an 18th century mansion which has been faithfully restored. It is unique in that it retains its original furnishings and professionally guided tours allow visitors to browse freely through the stately surroundings.
In the heartland of Connacht, a forgotten landscape is being brought to light in the award-winning Cruachan Ai Heritage Centre. An amazing array of archaeological remains are located within a four mile radius of the centre, dating from the Stone Age to the historic period, and these are interpreted in the bright, modern exhibition rooms.
