There is plenty to amuse the family in Longford Megabowl on Athlone Road, Farranyoogan, including 10 pin bowling, pool and video games. With automatic bumpers and bowling, even the youngest children get wonderful enjoyment and they never fail to score! Experience History!
Ballinamuck Visitor Centre is located in the historic former Royal Irish Constabulary barracks in the picturesque village of Ballinamuck in North County Longford. The centre houses a fascinating and lively exhibition which gives details of the Year of the French and the Battle of Ballinamuck in 1798. After informing oneself on the history of the area, if the weather allows, you can tread the ground where the battle took place, visiting the many historically significant sites. Admission is free.
Catch a Movie!
Who doesn’t love popcorn and a good movie? Take in a movie at the Omniplex on Bridge Street. There is a kids’ club with discounted rates – €3.50 for a ticket – and you can enjoy a family friendly film every Saturday and Sunday.
Alternatively, why not enjoy all the fun of the cinema, without ever leaving home by creating your own home cinema experience! Get the kids involved in setting up the cinema, arranging seating, making tickets etc. then sit back and relax!

Visit your local library. All libraries in the county have a junior section. Great for a rainy afternoon – go and read with the children or take part in many of the free events and activities that take place.
The county’s main library in Longford and branches in Ballymahon, Granard, Edgeworthstown and Drumlish have plenty of books for readers of all ages, plus fun activities every week in the summer.

Try Virtual Racing!
If it’s raining and you can’t go for a drive on Action Sports’ outdoor go karting track in Edgeworthstown, then why not give their virtual racing a try? Check out their racing and driver training simulators – this is the real deal! It’s €10 per person for 15 minutes.

At the Backstage Theatre in Farneyhoogan, Longford, you can experience the best that the world of theatre & entertainment has to offer. From music to theatre to dance, there’s bound to be something the kids will enjoy.
Get Creative!
At the Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre, kids can try out a range of creative workshops. You can hear ancient Irish myths and legends, follow in the footsteps of the saints and scholars of medieval Ireland in the Clay Symbols workshop or be inspired by the stories to create a felt scene. Or just have a coffee and browse through the wonderful craft shop!
