There’s no shortage of things to do in Leitrim, so we’ve narrowed it down for you! Here’s our Mykidstime Top 10 things to do with kids in Leitrim, in no particular order!!

#1.  Parke’s Castle

Parke’s Castle is a restored 17th century castle and bawn located on the picturesque shores of Lough Gill and was the home place of Robert Parke and his family.

The Courtyard grounds contain evidence of an earlier 16th century Tower House structure once owned by Sir Brian O’Rourke who subsequently was executed at Tyburn, London in 1591. The Castle has been restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmenship.

Access for visitors with disabilities to ground floor. Open April – September, admission fees.

#2.  Aura Leisure Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon

Because we know it rains sometimes too head to Aura Leisure Centre for a splashing time, where you’ll find a 25m swimming pool, learner pool and kiddies pool.

#4. Glencar Waterfall

Glencar Waterfall served as an inspiration to the William Butler Yeats and features in his poem ‘The Stolen Child’:

‘Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star’

The waterfall is situated near Glencar Lake, 11 kilometres west of Manorhamilton in County Leitrim. It is particularly impressive after rain and can be viewed from a lovely wooded walk with facilities on site including children’s playground, picnic areas, café facilities, tourism information and ample parking.

#5. Horse riding in Leitrim

Why not take the kids horse riding at Moorlands in Drumshanbo who offer treks, lessons and outrides.

Drumcoura City is a Western style dude ranch overlooking the beautiful lake ‘Drumcour’ which is surrounded by mountains and hills set in an unspoilt region of Co. Leitrim. They cater for both the experienced and novice horse rider (ages 5+).

#6.  Fowleys Falls

Fowleys Falls in Rossinver has a trail that is perfect for preschoolers. It’s not too long, yet you feel you are a million miles from anything. The Trail goes very close to the loud river and Falls and has picnic tables at one end, perfect for a break too. It’s a real hidden gem and an easy walk for younger kids.

#7.  The Organic Centre

At The Organic Centre situated on the south western shores of Lough Melvin you can explore their gardens and breathe in the fresh air as well as picking up some great gardening tips. Their aim is to promote organic gardening and sustainable living through training, demonstration and the provision of information.

As well as demonstration organic gardens with 7 polytunnels, an orchard, outdoor gardens, ornamental beds and a woodland, there’s a small playground & picnic area. Entrance fee for the gardens is €4 and concession is €2, children are free.

#8. Lough Melvin Eco Park

On the northern shore of the lough, just outside the village of Kinlough is an eco-park created by The Organic Centre as an Organic Centre Plus project. It is a perfect place to enjoy a picnic with your family with purpose built picnic tables, play area and 17 acres of woodland walks.

#9. The Beach!

Top quiz question – the county with the shortest coast, it’s Leitrim! :) So why not head to Tullaghan Beach! It’s amazing to think that Leitrim actually has a coastline, it’s a small coast of about 3 miles, between Sligo and Donegal.

#10. Cavan and Leitrim Railway

Open during summer months and run by volunteers, the Cavan and Leitrim Railway museum is located beside the Irish Rail station in Dromod on the grounds of the old Cavan and Leitrim Railway yard.

Today 0.4 kilometers has been restored and remains preserved after its original closure in 1959. They are currently fundraising for the restoration of returning Avonside-built 3ft gauge “Nancy” to Ireland and to steaming condition.
