As parents we know how expensive it can be to entertain the kids, so we thought we would put together a list of things to do for free with the children, yes, the things that are completely free of charge. Here are our suggestions for the best free things to do in Leitrim with kids:

Family Walks in Leitrim

Glencar Waterfall

Glencar Waterfall is particularly impressive after rain and can be viewed from a lovely wooded walk. There are more waterfalls visible from the road, although none is quite as romantic as this one.

There are also on-site picnic facilities and an information kiosk.

Fowleys Falls

Why not try out the Nature Trail at Fowleys Falls near Rossinver. There’s a nice nature walk with picnic tables, a real little hidden gem and an easy walk for young kids.

The Organic Centre

Head to The Organic Centre, pick up a few tips, explore their gardens and breathe in the fresh air!

Their aim is to promote organic gardening and sustainable living through training, demonstration and the provision of information.

As well as demonstration organic gardens with 7 polytunnels, an orchard, outdoor gardens, ornamental beds and a woodland, there’s a small playground & picnic area.

Head To The Beach!

Top quiz question – the county with the shortest coast, it’s Leitrim! :) So why not head to Tullaghan Beach! It’s amazing to think that Leitrim actually has a coastline, it’s a small coast of about 3 miles, between Sligo and Donegal.

Make The Most of Libraries in Leitrim

Make sure to check out your local library and find out what classes and events that they run throughout the year.  Your local library branch is a wonderful, free, resource for families.

All libraries host very popular, annual summer reading programmes while many of the branches run or host parent and toddler groups, storytelling sessions, arts and crafts classes, book clubs, games and activities sessions, exhibitions and so on.  Not to mention the fact that there is free computer access and the option to borrow books and DVDs!  For a change of scenery, why not visit a different library to your local branch?

Visit a Playground

There are some great playgrounds in Leitrim.  It’s an activity that is both free and good fun!

Make sure to bring some snacks and drinks or a picnic lunch.
