Lough Key Forest Park

Lough Key

Lough Key Forest Park is a great family friendly place for a wander. Not only is it buggy friendly but it also has a restaurant and changing facilities.  There’s an adventure play kingdom in the grounds of the old Rockingham estate, as well as a tree canopy and spooky old servants’ tunnels. Also home to Ireland’s only Boda Borg, a kind of Swedish version of The Crystal Maze!

With 8kms of traffic free trails, there are a number of walking trails at Lough Key that have been graded to suit all abilities.

Loughnaneane Park

Loughnaneane Park is a 14 acre recreational area outside Roscommon town, bordered by the ruins of Roscommon Castle which is a dramatic and imposing 13th Century Norman Castle.

The Park includes a crannog known locally as the Hill o’ Bones, a wildflower meadow, bird walk, lake feature, mounds, children’s playground and car park.

Kilronan Castle

With more than 40 acres of breathtaking landscape, the walks through Kilronan Forest take you on a path from the Castle to the shore of Lough Meelagh. There are stunning views to enjoy of the beautiful woodland and lakeside scenery.

Lough Errit

These peaceful walks include a trail along the tranquil shores of Lough Errit and through the local wood and bog lands, taking in Lough Errit amenity area which has a slipway, bathing area, car park and boat house on its shores.

Castlerea Demesne

This looped walk around the Castlerea Demesne Parkland gives you a chance to see woodland wildlife and, if you look very carefully, a fairy village that is home to Castlerea’s magical folk!

There is the option to continue your walk to the woodlands at Clonalis House, which was once home to the High Kings of Ireland.

Boyle Historic Town Walk

This walk through historic Boyle begins at the 18th-century King House and takes in Boyle Abbey with other stops including Frybrook House and the Shambles. Boyle’s 12th Century bridge is one of the oldest in Ireland.

Trails in Lecarrow

The name Rindoon (in Irish ‘rinn duin‘) means a fortified headland. The Rindoon Peninsula in County Roscommon extends into Lough Ree approximately in the centre of Ireland.

There are two Rinn Duin trails in Lecarrow of 3 or 4.5km long, graded easy to suit all abilities. Loops are marked in blue and green and start at St John’s House.
