Great Walks in Wicklow for Families

Family walks are a great way to get out with the kids and there are many beautiful places to walk around Wicklow from wooded trails to parks, so you are sure to find something to suit you. Here are some of our favourite walks in Wicklow for families. Remember to pack the rain gear, wellies, camera and sun-cream – it is Ireland after all!

#1. Glendalough

The Glendalough Valley is located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park and has many attractions to entice, entertain and enthral visitors from its world famous Monastic Site with Round Tower to its scenic lakes and valleys, as well as a selection of walks and trails in the area including The Wicklow Way.

#2. The Sean Linehan Walk

The Sean Linehan Walk in Tinnakilly Bridge is a lovely walk in the picturesque, historic village of Aughrim.  It has a number of short walks available, the longest being 4km, which are more suitable for little legs. It’s also a great place to observe nature, though some of the route is unsuitable for buggies.

Avondale House & Forest Park is just outside Rathdrum and has lovely forest walks, cafe and a playground to keep all the family happy.

#4. Kilmacurragh Botanic Gardens

Kilmacurragh Botanic Gardens is a peaceful spot for a walk and picnic.

#5. Kindlestown Woods

Kindlestown Woods in Delgany has a shorter loop with a fabulous view at the top.

#6. The Railway Walk

The Railway Walk in Tinahely runs along part of the original train track from Woodenbridge to Shillelagh, alongside the Derry River and through pretty farmland.  2.3km in length, the walk has some picnic tables along the way, and a clearly defined path suitable for wheelchairs and sturdy buggies.  Dogs must be kept leashed.  The Railway Walk terminates at Tomnafinnoge Woods. There is car parking at both ends of the Railway Walk.
