For 60 years, LEGO has consistently been one of the world’s most iconic toy brands, appealing to kids and adult fans alike (remember David Beckham’s Disney Castle build?). Now, the brand has moved into a whole new world of play – augmented reality.
LEGO’s Creative Play Lab, the department that explores the future of play, has created the LEGO AR-Studio app to give fans the chance to play with digital versions of some of the most popular LEGO sets using augmented reality. Which means brick fans can mix virtual LEGO sets with their own real ones, creating a unique way to play.

What Does the New LEGO AR-Studio App Do?
Once the app is downloaded (from the App Store for Apple devices running iOS 11 and above), LEGO fans can explore and control virtually enhanced animated versions of LEGO models in real-world environments – like on your kitchen table!
It really does take normal playtime to a whole new level, particularly as you can create your own unique stories and adventures. The app also allows users to record the action and save video clips directly to their smart device – so you can become a movie maker too!

There are fun animations and various audiovisual effects that you can add, as well as special features like a dragon breathing fire, a train sounding its horn or a fire truck’s hose spraying water – all of which can be activated while playing in the app.
In an element not unfamiliar to fans of Pokemon GO, the AR-Studio app also sees golden bricks hidden around the game for fans to collect while they play.
At present, the LEGO sets available in the app are:
- LEGO City Police Station – 60047
- LEGO City Train Set – 60052
- LEGO City Fire Station – 60110
- LEGO Ninjago The Green NRG Dragon – 70593
- LEGO Ninjago Movie – Cole’s Mech – 70632
- LEGO Ninjago Movie – Destiny’s Bounty – 70618
