If you’re wondering when the school holidays are for where you live, we’ve got a round up of the school holidays 2024, with dates into 2025 for schools in different places.
School Holidays 2024-2025
There are guidelines now in place in many schools to discourage parents removing their children unnecessarily (apart from illness) during term-time – in some places for example, you even risk a daily fine for taking your child out of school without permission!
So it pays to be savvy about when your child is meant to be in school.
School Holidays 2024/2025 in Ireland
School Return secondary: From Friday 23rd August (check with your school for exact dates)
Primary Return date: Likely to be 2nd September (school dependent)
October Mid-Term: Monday 28th October to Friday 1st November 2024 inclusive
Christmas Holidays: All schools from Friday 20th December 2024, reopening Monday 6th January 2025.
February Mid-Term: Secondary schools close Monday 17th February to Friday 21st February 2025 inclusive (some dates may change if contingency days are needed). Primary schools close Thursday 20th February and Friday 21st February 2025 (may extend to 5 day break).
Where contingency arrangements are required a school authority may reduce the length of the February mid-term break by remaining open up to and including Wednesday 19th February 2025.
St Patrick’s Day: Monday 17th September 2025
Easter Holidays: All schools will close on Friday 11th April 2025, re-opening Monday 28th April 2025. (Some schools who need to make up contingency days, may remain open until Wednesday 16th April 2025)
May Bank Holiday: Monday 5th May 2025
June Bank Holiday: Monday 2nd June 2025
